Lau Yee Vanessa Fong (b. 1997, Hong Kong)is a London-based visual artist who recently graduated with an MA in Painting from the Royal College of Art. She graduated from the Art Center College of Design with a BFA in Fine Art in 2021. Her art, deeply rooted in Buddhist and Eastern philosophy, explores a personal journey of spiritual self-healing and interprets ancient philosophies in a contemporary light.
Inspired by the mystique of the ancient Sanxingdui Bronze Age culture in China, her paintings contemplate the intricate relationship between human creation and the natural world, inviting viewers to reflect on the delicate balance between human ingenuity and the timeless beauty of nature.
A thread running through her work is the yearning to connect with something beyond our worldly existence—be it the sky, celestial beings, or imagined realms. It's about transcending our earthly boundaries to touch the divine, imagining lives unfettered by physical constraints, and channelling our spirits toward these ethereal domains.
Through the interplay of ancient cultural inspirations and contemporary themes, her art seeks to bridge the gap between tradition and modernity and embodies a transcendent quality that elevates the viewer's experience to a realm where spirituality intersects with the tangible world.
